Sketch Dump pt.2

Though I assume my readers have a fairly broad range of interests, I know the meat-and-potatoes of this blog should be artwork, preferably by me. I can only indulge my other interests so often without risking you fleeing away with A.D.D. suddenness. And so, some sketches from recently-released artwork.

First up is this figure study from the "Impromptu Raid" card from Magic: the Gathering's Shadowmoor expansion. I really wanted this boggart to have 4 arms. I was told, however, to ditch 2 arms. Apparently 4 arms is supposed to mean something rules-wise. I have no idea (I haven't played Magic since Visions). I axed the arms, and I do feel the figure suffered some. No pun intended.

I was asked to change the pose of the Fire Archon in the following piece for the final illustration in Dragon Digital-Magazine #361. They didn't want any confusion that the Fire Archon was indeed a bodyguard, and not about to lop the Eladrin's head off. Fair enough.

Who names the World of Warcraft TCG characters? Breen Toestubber? Really? In any case, it was just "Gnome Warrior" when I was assigned it. Some changes were made for the final--her proportions squared away more closely to Blizzard's ideals, and her pauldrons changed to something more Warrior-type. This is the second concept for this card, as the first was shot down. Time was short, so I began this the night before leaving to GenCon '07, and finished it while sitting at my booth. Not the first time I've worked on sketches for projects at my booth.
