I Haz Cat

You can’t go very long on the internet without people bringing up their pets in some form—whether a dedicated website or blog post or mass email with fat image files. So it was inevitable that I would eventually join their ranks.

My cat has been my studio companion for most of his 8 years. While we were in Europe we ditched him with a friend, but now that I’m back, so is he. I was never much of a cat guy before getting him though I’d been around cats before. I think it is because my cat is such a complete bastard that I like him. Even some neighbors’ cats that I see now are not all that interesting to me. Cat personalities have a large middle area of what to me is pretty boring. On the fringes you get the weirdos and they are the ones who stand out…and I’m not one who seeks out weirdos on the average day.

In any case, he’s awfully soft and, between bouts of evil, spends most of his day asleep during which I’m sure he’s dreaming of my violent demise. Since he’s been sleeping by a window directly to my right as I type, it was inevitable that I would try to scribble him down and inevitable that this blog would end up with a cat-post.

Having been using a brush pen for a little while, I was sitting at my lappy with my tablet, doing some digital prep work. I grabbed the sumi brush tool in Painter, which is something like a brush pen, and did a quick digital sketch:
